Modern Languages

Our Modern Languages Department offers Core French, French Immersion and Extended French Programs from grade 9 through grade 12.  In addition, we offer level 1 (grade 10) and level 2 (grade 11) Spanish language courses.

Students continue to improve their listening and speaking, reading and writing skills through a variety of activities including multi-media projects, film studies, novel studies, oral presentations, grammar and listening exercises.  The department is organizing a 10 day visit to Paris and the Loire Valley in March 2013 to provide a French language and cultural experience to our Core French and Immersion students.

Every year, our students participate in various French competitions and are very successful. In April 2012, a grade 10 student won first place in the OCDSB French Public Speaking Competition and represented our Board at the provincial competition in Toronto in early May.  In May 2012, a group of nine grade 11 and 12 students participated in the prestigious Ottawa University and Carleton University Concours de Français langue seconde.  One of our grade 12 students won second place in the Extended French category and a grade 11 student won fourth place in the Core French category.
