- We are very proud to announce that for the second year in a row, AYJ has won the coveted "Best Play" award at the Cappies, an inter-school competition where 37 schools enter a full-length play or musical, which is then reviewed and voted on by student critics. Student critic reviews are published in the Ottawa Citizen, and there are hundreds of awards for students at the prestigious Gala in Southam Hall at the National Arts Centre, such as best actor/actress, lighting/sound, dance, set design, etc. This is the high school version of the Academy Awards, and all the students dress accordingly!

- AYJ has been participating in this event for the past 5 years, and has been nominated for best production every year, along with many other individual nominations and awards. Last year, we won "Best Musical" for "Sweeney Todd", and we are the only school ever to have won both Best Musical, and Best Play. None of this would have been possible without the guidance of director and AYJ teacher Ms. Henkelman.
- Other nominations for this year's Play, "Plaza Suite" were as follows:
- Ahsan Hussein - Best Featured Actor - WINNER
- Kyra Weichert - Best Supporting Actress in a Play
- Connor Flack - Best Supporting Actor in a Play
- Kelechi Onyegbula, Jon Arnott, Amanda Barclay, Elaine Sandness - Best Stage Crew - WINNER
- Sean Behncke - Lighting
- Annie Sheehy - Best Actress in a Play - WINNER
- Sam Dewhurst and Kyra Weichert - Best Ensemble in a Play
- PLAZA SUITE - FAVOURITE PLAY - WINNER
